Jon Batiste, musician and bandleader for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert leads a musical master class in 2017 at The Knick with students of the RI Philharmonic Music School.
The Knickerbocker Music Center is an important affiliate of The United Theatre, allowing for centralized programming, marketing, and the coordination of physical space. Located just around the corner from the theatre, The Knick, together with The United will create a multi-venue regional campus for the arts.
The Knick’s mission is to preserve, cultivate, celebrate and teach Westerly blues and all other forms of music. Since 2014, the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School has partnered with The Knick to engage more than 5,000 students in the Westerly & Chariho school districts.
Together, The United and The Knick will provide an Educational Learning Center for 300+ weekly lessons, classes and ensemble students of the Philharmonic Music School.
Additionally, both venues will build on attracting national headliners that, to date, have included: Jon Batiste, Robert Earl Keen, Deer Tick, Leon Russell and more.
#4A First For the Region: The United will provide Westerly with its first year-round venue for jazz, classical, opera, ballet, modern dance and popular music; it’s only centrally located gallery for visual artists; its first multi-screen art house cinema; flexible education space; and Westerly’s first comprehensive, professional community music school.
