#1 Make an Impact: Through music, film and arts education for youth and adults, The United will aid in building a compassionate community of creative thinkers, leaders, and lifelong learners.
#2 A Sense of Place: By partnering with public, private, not-for-profit, and community sectors, The United will serve as a catalyst in strategically shaping the physical and social character of the region around arts and cultural activities.
#3 An Economic Driver: By creating a hub of activity and entertainment, The United will serve as a magnet to draw tourism and consumers into the downtown and Westerly region.
#4 A First For the Region: The United will provide Westerly with its first year-round venue for jazz, classical, opera, ballet, modern dance and popular music; it’s only centrally located gallery for visual artists; its first multi-screen art house cinema; flexible education space; and Westerly’s first comprehensive, professional community music school.
#5 Historic Preservation: The United is included within the National Register listed Westerly Downtown Historic District. In keeping with that history, renovations of The United will protect and restore the historically significant architecture and affectivity of the beloved former theatre and restore its place as a downtown icon.
